Que dramatic music, lights, and extravagance. As per usual, Apple’s new iPhone 7 was unveiled to much fanfare and hype. So with all the included gadgetry, what does the new iPhone mean to the real estate sector. Of course, most of what was unveiled by Apple surrounds the hardware, with software developments coming later, as software development houses build new applications to meet the new hardware.
So, how can the new iPhone change/enhance the real estate sales process?
In a press release by Apple, “iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus dramatically improve every aspect of the iPhone experience, reaching a new level of innovation and precision to make this the best iPhone we have ever made,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The completely redesigned cameras shoot incredible photos and videos day or night, the A10 Fusion chip is the most powerful chip on any smartphone while delivering the best battery life ever in an iPhone, and an entirely new stereo speaker system provides twice the sound, all within the first water and dust resistant iPhone.”
The most important upgrade of the iPhone 7 is the storage. A new 256GB model has been included, which is a great relief to some. Users can now store double the amount of apps, docs, videos, presentations and music. Now with greater storage, this any mobile real estate agent will be able to store all required presentations and videos right on the device, without worrying about overfilling the device.
Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus gain a camera upgrade. The biggest leap is the dual camera in the iPhone 7 Plus, being now capable of depth of field. This new hardware feature will provide capabilities of more accurately detecting depth and spacial awareness. This could dramatically assist real estate with more accurately measuring a room’s space, wall to wall. Instant floorplans or improved VR for the real estate agent to display online, instantly.
More Performance & Battery Life
Without saying any mobile device we rely on needs a good battery. Any improvement to the battery performance and life will assist any mobile real estate agent. Apple claim the newly designed main processor of the iPhone, the Apple A10 Fusion chip, will make it more powerful and gain more time between charges. The new chip in the new iPhone will run double speed, across four internal cores, running on 20% less power.
Although (and arguably) Apple Pay has been around since iPhone 5, the new Apple Pay is venturing into new countries. At the moment, Apple Pay is only being employed for over the counter transactions, largely being retail focused. Going forward, with the inclusion of the Japanese contactless payment technology FeliCa, perhaps new uses for real estate could be developed.
An issue with iPhone of the past models was always the mono, external loudspeaker. It was never thought of as an important feature of the iPhone. Now that the analogue audio port has been removed, stereo external speakers are now standard with the iPhone 7. This is a great move for sharing with friends, family, and clients. For a real estate agent, they can now share a stereo experience, increasing the immersion of a presentation to prospective clients.
AirPods are wireless headphones that last for up to 5hrs. They have their own charge pack and fit easily into the user’s pocket. The main reason this device will enhance the real estate agent’s workday is the Siri integration. The AirPods use directional microphones to listen and detect for instruction with Siri. AirPods feature a new Apple wireless chip called W1, which manage efficient wireless communication for a better connection, improved sound and battery life. AirPods harness the power of Siri® with just a double tap.
The new iPhone features a brighter and colorful Retina® HD display, now with a wide color gamut for cinema-standard colors, greater color saturation, and better color management for smartphones. For the real estate agent, a more colourful and dynamic screen is a great tool for listing the next property. Showcasing the vendor’s property or presenting on the iPhone will never be the same.
The software running the iPhone has been updated to iOS 10, which is another jump for iPhone, making the iPhone 7 more usable and efficient. With an update to the messaging app, iPhone now delivers more expressive and animated ways to message friends and family. Siri can now do more by working with different apps, new ways to interact with apps and more places to use 3D Touch™. Maps has been redesigned, as has Photos, Apple Music® and News apps, and the Home app, delivering a simple and secure way to manage home automation products in one place. iOS 10 also opens up more opportunities for developers with Siri, Maps, Phone and Messages APIs, allowing customers to do more than ever with the apps they love to use.
