NYC based architecture firm, Clouds AO have released plans to build the first ever floating skyscraper. The structure will hang from a captured asteroid 50,000 kilometers (31,000 miles) in the air.
Named Analemma Tower, the structure follows a geosynchronous orbit matching the earth’s rotation of one day, tracing out a path in a figure-8 form, returning the tower to exactly the same position in the sky each day. The path covers the Northern and Southern Hemisphtravellingeling above major cities such as Havana, Panama City, and of course New York.
The company stated that manipulating asteroids is now plausible, citing NASA’s scheduled asteroid retrieval mission for 2021 and the European Space Agency sparking a new round of investment in asteroid mining.
The tower is designed to be self-supporting, acting like a floating city. The structure will house multiple facilities such as dining, shopping and entertainment, commercial offices, garden and agriculture, residential and a place of worship.
Clouds AO proposes to build the structure in Dubai.
